The Day My Grandparents Met Layla

As I woke up in my house in Fresh Meadows I took Layla for a walk. When we were outside i noticed how beautiful the day was. This must have been early summer 1999. As I was walking back into my home suddenly i remembered that my Grandmother and my Grandfather were coming over.

I was in my house cleaning up and making my home presentable for my grandparents. I was really excited because my grandparents lived in Florida and my Grandmother had been suffering from cancer since 1997. I was so excited for them to meet Layla. I remember talking to them on the day prior and telling them she was a pit bull but she was the most amiable pit bull ever.

After I cleaned up Layla and Dutchess were playing with their rope. Layla was about six months old at this point and she was extremely energetic. I remember she would run from one side of the living room and jump on the couch full force and then run right back to the other side of the living room and jump on that count. She did this FOREVER.

When my Grandparents arrived I was grateful to see them. I showed them around the house and introduced them to Layla. My Grandmother (who passed away from cancer that year August 27, 1999) loved Layla. I remember sitting on the couch with Layla and Dutchess watching Judge Judy.  I had such a great time and remember that day Early summer vividly as if it were yesterday. After my Grandmother passed away I was lost. Layla was my security blanket. I still think about my Grandmother everyday too. She was a great, giving women who took a hand in raising me and taught me many things. I am grateful for the times that I had with my Grandmother and she will be with me forever. As of now, I can imagine Layla on a couch with my Grandmother in Heaven.

Below are Some charities for Pit Bulls

Please do what you can to help dogs in need. Even if it is just one dollar it will be helpful. If you have a dog or cat I recommend Pet Insurance from Purina to help cover your vet bills.

Pizza On The Table

As I sit here watching reality TV I felt an urge to get a bottle of water. As I opened the water I went to pour some water into her bowl. I thought her bowl was there and she would want some water. That reminds me of the time when I was living on Utopia parkway.

Once my friend Jon and I were out and walked into the house. There was left over pizza on the table. I can vividly remember Dutchess standing on the table eating pizza and Layla with her two paws on a chair waiting for the pizza to drop. That was around 2002. BTW this blog is not going to be in the correct syntax. I am going to write memories as they come to me. I still can not believe you have past on my beautiful girl. I miss you and I will love you forever my big puppy! My life will never be the same without you.

1999-2011

I was 20 years old when I first brought Layla home. I remember driving home with Layla, she was sitting on my friend Jon's lap.  It was a great day and little did I know how special she was and how much of an impact she had on my life for the better.

I brought Layla to the vet to get her shots before going back to my place in Fresh Meadows. I remember how scared she was to the point where she was shacking.  She had know idea her sister Dutchess was waiting at home. When they met there was a little conflict but they quickly began to love each other.

The first night I attempted to have her sleep in the cage but she did not like that very much. I let her sleep into my room and remember how much I loved her instantly. The first couple days were crazy as I had no experience raising a dog. It took a while for me to feel comfortable letting Dutchess and Layla Play alone. They used to play fight, I remember the rope I had for them to tug on and how I used to play with the two of them.

It has been exactly three weeks since Layla has passed away and it extremely difficult to express how much I loved her and how special she is and will always be to me.

About Layla

Layla was born in Ronkonkoma New York on January 12, 1999. She was a Brindle and White Pit Bull/American Stafford Shire Terrier. Her biological fathers name was Buster and her biological mothers name was Scrappy Doo. I brought her home when she was 3 months old. I was living in Fresh Meadows at the time. I can remember specifically when her and Dutchess, her sister first met. She was professionally trained at the age of 6 months old. Layla was raised in a very good environment and was loved by many people. People often commented on how well behaved she was. She lived a very long happy, and healthy life and will be missed forever.
